St Martin-in-the-Fields Almshouse Charity, established over 400 years ago, provides accommodation for the residents of Westminster who cannot afford their own housing. This project is the redevelopment of the Charity’s existing site in St John’s Wood, London.
The design seeks to address the question of what an urban almshouse should be in the 21st Century, by creating 44 apartments, with a mix of one and two bedroom units over four storeys for the elderly and also key workers: The intention is to provide for an integrated community in leafy St. John’s Wood.
