School of Art & Design, 2013

The conservation and refurbishment of a striking 1960’s Art School building required a full overhaul of the building fabric, services and the way in which the interior spaces were used. Invited Competition, 1st Place.

By clearing away later additions to the original building, the clarity of the spaces has been rediscovered. A new sculpture court is created in the centre of the plan at the heart of the school.

At the front of the building a striking performance space is created as a response to the new digital curriculum being taught and a beacon announcing the re-invigorated Art School to the surrounding community.
